Oldbury Site

Located on a 71 hectare site 15 miles north of Bristol on the south bank of the River Severn in South Gloucestershire, is an operating twin reactor station.

Since 1967, the station has produced electricity around the clock supplying on a typical day 435MW of electricity - enough to meet the needs of a city one and a half times the size of Bristol. The station with two reactor vessels, each containing 26,400 fuel elements, draws supplies of cooling water from the River Severn.
 
The role
To provide a Health Physics monitoring service to the station as a member of a team within the Day Production Department. To assist the maintenance and operations
staff in establishing the correct conditions for work to proceed in a controlled and safe manner, commensurate with the principles of Radiological safety and good working practices.
The duties will include using a selection of radiological and gaseous monitoring instruments, recording results and producing reports to comply with legislative and organizational procedures.
 
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will need to be articulate and tactful, and be able to give advice and guidance such that full understanding is achieved in all matters relating to the role. In addition a diligent approach to record keeping & working practice compliance, aligned with a
positive approach to team working and cooperation with others is essential.
 
Experience / Competencies
Some understanding of the operation of a Nuclear Power Plant would be advantageous, but full training and development will be given.
 
Qualifications
Experience in a trade occupation is desirable. Qualifications in English and Mathematics to O level standard or equivalent.
