A local voluntary litter picking group found more than they bargained for recently.
Due to an increase in member numbers, Thornbury Litter Busters asked Oldbury Power Station for new litter pickers and hoops through the site’s Socio Economic fund recently.
The group were delighted when their request was granted, but were even more surprised when they received a set of high visibility jackets from the station.
Group member Vivian Butt said: “We were very pleased when we received a letter to say our funding application for £250 had been approved, but were absolutely thrilled when we heard that we were going to have new high visibility jackets as well.
“We meet regularly to litter pick and also promote link with groups, including schools and business to create a positive cultural change towards litter in our community, we receive no funding, and this support will benefit us considerably.”
Eirian Vaughan Lewis, Communication department, said: “It is important to be safe and visible when doing this kind of work. We were delighted to be able to provide the group with high visibility jackets as well as the financial support.”
