Healthy Workforce Scheme Gets Green Light

Trawsfynydd Site has been awarded £38k from the Welsh Assembly Government, via the Sports Council for Wales, to fund a ‘Healthy Workforce’ scheme at the nuclear decommissioning site.

The funding will go towards converting an existing space into an on-site fitness facility by refurbishing the area and installing exercise equipment, including treadmills and exercise bikes.

A network of walking routes will be marked out for site staff and the local community to use and a number of bicycles will be available for workers to get out and make the most of the stunning Snowdonia landscape surrounding the site.

The scheme will complement Trawsfynydd’s Biodiversity Action Plan and will work alongside the socio-economic work already being done by Magnox North to support the communities where it operates.
Trawsfynydd’s Occupational Health Advisor, Graham Blackall, said: “There is a very clear benefit to the business of having a fitter, healthier workforce.”

“We believe we’ll see positive results from the scheme including increased efficiency, falling sickness rates and a growth in productivity. There’s also a range of intangible advantages of these non-contributory health benefits, such as increased morale.”

Chair of the Sports Council for Wales, Philip Carling said: "With the funding and support from the Welsh Assembly Government and the National Lottery, the Sports Council for Wales is helping to transform the sporting landscape in Wales. The considerable investment into community and outdoor sport, facilities and equipment has impacted on communities throughout the principality and is helping to raise participation rates across the board."
