Working in the Community
The Oldbury team have a first class, specific annual Socio-Economic Development Plan dedicated to ensuring proactive support activities are undertaken. These activities benefit the social or economic life of the local community.
The activities undertaken are specifically targeted to help promote the working arrangements and NDA activities, which impact on the community over the longer term.
Key issues which will be continuously reviewed through the Oldbury Socio-Economic Development Plan:
- How best to give encouragement and support to activities that provide Socio-Economic benefit to the local community.
- How our future funding of Socio-Economic activities should be organised to support community initiatives and longer term strategic opportunities.
Our proposed approach:
- We plan to act as a focal point for stakeholders, providing leadership where appropriate, and act as a facilitator, catalyst and partner where others are best placed to lead/implement.
- Our focus will be primarily strategic to ensure a coherent and consistent approach across sites at both national and regional levels.
- We believe that local, community based action plans are best developed and implemented locally in consultation with our local community stakeholders and workforce.
- We have succeeded in our plans to facilitate the setting up of a local committee to administer local funding applications - The SSG sub-group was set up in 2007. Membership consists of members of the Oldbury workforce, management team together with members of the Site Stakeholder Group.
- We commit to listen to, and take into account stakeholder views on our Socio-Economic Development Plan.
The site has a busy programme of community involvement in place through the work of its communication team. This involves the team going out to deliver presentations to community groups across the local area, and working with local Education Business Partnerships to support mock interviews and science projects in schools.
The site also has a well used nature trail which is used by a large number of local residents and organisations including the University of the West of England’s Department of the Built Environment and numerous birdwatching and naturalist groups. This is another opportunity for the site to engage with people living in the vicinity of Oldbury.
